 I. Definition

An electrodialyzer is a device that uses ion-exchange membranes (anion-exchange membranes and cation-exchange membranes) to selectively migrate ions under the action of a direct current (DC) electric field. Its core principle is: driven by the electric field, cations in the solution migrate to the cathode and pass through the cation-exchange membranes, while anions migrate to the anode and pass through the anion-exchange membranes, thereby achieving desalination or concentration of the solution. The equipment is suitable for treating saline water bodies (such as seawater and industrial wastewater), efficiently removing ionic impurities while retaining non-ionic components.

 II. Structure

Membrane Pair: The basic unit, formed by the alternating arrangement of anion-exchange membranes, diluting compartment spacers, cation-exchange membranes, and concentrating compartment spacers.

Membrane Stack: The core component of the electrodialyzer, assembled by stacking multiple membrane pairs, responsible for the ion separation process.

Auxiliary Components: On both sides of the membrane stack are electrodes (to provide the electric field), water distribution plates (to evenly distribute water flow), and clamping plates (to fix the membrane stack structure)
